Gary Lockwood and Ron Lynch have done a great job on the ice rink:  fighting changes in weather, so this might be the end of its use for this year.

Sorry to report that Jeff Olson is staying in Washington more, so has resigned as a member of Bellaire Rotary.
Wolverine Boys State:  One boy from each school will be sponsored this year with American Legion helping with scholarships!  We have Ron Lynch's grandson, Luke Helsel, going from BHS already.  Still working on getting a boy from Central Lake. We would like to add one girl from each school to send to Girls State at Mich State U. next year as well as the boys.  These programs have not been utilized in our schools and we would like to see it developed locally.
Gary continues to work on Life Leadership Conference attendees - 1 girl and 1 boy from each school sponsored by our club, asking juniors.  Cal spoke to Mary Spyhalski and Peggy Stevens from the schools today and asked them to get name for the program ASAP.
Juniper Garden Club is working with Bellaire Rotary and The Bellaire Youth Initiative to create a garden space behind the elementary school as soon as the weather breaks.  Peggy Stevens is also a Girl Scout leader and will have her girls helping - Peggy also donated 2 above ground units to use in this Community Garden.
Peggy Stevens introduced Amber O'Neal March Student of the Month from Bellaire: daughter of James and Jodi O'Neal, Amber has excelled both in and out of the classroom and in the community.  While maintaining her high academic standards, Amber has been involved in many extracurricular activities, including, including greed cord tutoring two times a week for her entire high school career.  Amber's favorite classes are Art and Math.  This year she was voted homecoming queen.  Amber was on varsity basketball team for 3 years and was chosen for the All-State Academic Award.  She was on the varsity volleyball team for 2 years.  Amber has been a member of student council since her freshman year and has been a member of the National Honor Society for 2 years and is currently secretary.  She has over 100 hours voluntary community service during her high school career.  Amber is a very talented artist and has been in art since elementary school.  Her art work has been chosen to be in the Veterans Day program several times and her art work has also been chosen for the Rubber Ducky Festival t-shirt.  Amber is a hardworking, talented, kind and caring young lady.  She has touched many lives during her time at Bellaire High School.
 
Jaelyn Silk, daughter of Rob & Lori Silk, has been selected as the February Rotary Student of the Month for Bellaire High School.  Jaelyn has proven herself to be an excellent student and an outstanding member of the community.  She is hard working, service-centered and a well-rounded individual who is more than deserving of this honor.  Academically, Jaelyn is a student at the Manufacturing Technology Academy (MTA) program at TBAISD.  In this program, she participates in all honors-level academic classes and is a member of the Sumo Robot Team, which will compete at the 2019 National Robotics Competition.  At MTA, she is a member of the National Technical Honor Society. Jaelyn is also dual enrolled at Northwestern Michigan College, where she has earned a place on the Deans List.  At Bellaire schools, Jaelyn is a 3 year member of the Student Council and is currently the President of the Bellaire Chapter of the National Honor Society.  She has also been a four year percussionist in the Bellaire High School Band and a member of the VEX Educational Robotics team.  Jaelyn is also a valued member of the community where she has volunteered at Toys for Tots and Arts for All through the National Honors Society along with volunteering at AC Paw.  She also has given her time to help at TBAISD Career Tech Center and has helped out as the sound technician for BHS musicals. 
 
Mary introduced Taylor Waffle from Central Lake:  Plays clarinet 4 years.  Interested in doggy day care.   Works at Village Market in summer time and has a family member who is a vet.  She’s very interested in animal psyche.
 
Cal & Jill are working on the dinner for the SOM’s and their parents as soon as we get dates (1st and 3rd week of May).
Members should have received the golf sponsorship assignments. Let us know if you have any changes.
Rob Joyce is doing a ski fundraiser for cancer this Saturday at Shanty Creek, help him raise money to defeat this dreadful disease.
